Hamilton homers

Reigning American League MVP Josh Hamilton homered and had an infield single Wednesday night in the first game of his minor league rehab assignment that could lead to him rejoining the Texas Rangers early next week.

McCourt asks for Dodgers to be sold: Former Los Angeles Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt on Thursday asked a judge to order the sale of the team, saying her former husband has badly mismanaged the franchise since he fired her and has left it in a dire state.

Yankees' Dickerson OK after beaning: New York Yankees outfielder Chris Dickerson declared himself "extremely fortunate" to have only a headache and a concussion after being struck in the head by a baseball on Wednesday night.

Dodgers' Ethier makes obscene gesture : Andre Ethier was photographed making obscene gestures this week, and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has talked with the star outfielder about it.

During batting practice before a game against the Brewers, Ethier was snapped flipping his middle fingers at a photographer. He says he found the photographer distracting.

Either says he used bad judgment and will accept any punishment that baseball decides to hand out.

Giants fans feel safe

Cousins Jessie Freas and Steven Linan weren't sure how they'd be greeted Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.

Freas wore a pullover with an orange San Francisco Giants logo on the front. Linan, making the trip with her to celebrate his graduation from Stein High in Tracy, Calif., wore an autographed Barry Zito jersey.

"We were nervous at first but we heard about the increased security and stuff and we're not worried," Linan said. "This is for Bryan Stow. We're here because of him."

If only Stow could know that.

The last time the Giants were here, for a season-opening series against the Dodgers, Stow wore Giants gear and was brutally attacked in the parking lot after the game.

Two thugs reportedly cursing the Giants kicked and beat the paramedic from Santa Cruz into a coma and escaped with the help of a woman driving a getaway car. They have not been caught despite a reward fund that has grown past $200,000 for information leading to the attackers' arrest and conviction.
