Boise State - 5 Schools Joining Big East Conference Sports - Report - Home

The Big East is expected to announce Boise State and four other schools will join the conference.

CBSSports.com, citing sources, reported the league will announced Wednesday that San Diego State, Houston, Southern Methodist and Central Florida will join Boise State as new members of the Big East.

Boise State and San Diego will be football-only members while the three other schools will join as all-sports members, according to the report.

The Big East has been searching for replacements following the decision by Pittsburgh and Syracuse to join the Atlantic Coast Conference and West Virginia to leave for the Big 12 Conference.

In addition, TCU, which announced in December 2010 that it was planning to join the Big East, pulled out of its commitment and opted to join the Big 12.

The new additions will give the Big East 10 schools for football. The conference is expected to add Navy and has been trying to recruit Air Force as a 12th football school. Temple remains a fall-back option if Air Force declines.

Boise State's high-profile football program would be a huge addition in helping the conference retain its automatic qualifying status for the BCS.
